The Divine Blueprint: A Muslim’s Belief in All of God’s Revelations

The Islamic faith is summarized in six core beliefs. The third article of faith is in the belief in all the scriptures and divine books revealed in their original form by Allah to His Messengers throughout history. These Revelations, full of divine guidance, serve as a manual to guide people towards the light and the right path to Allah.

A Universal Guidance And Message

The core message that is emphasized throughout, consistent from the first prophet to the last, is the worship of Allah alone and forbid worshipping other than Him or others alongside Him, be it idols, lusts, or worldly systems.

These revealed books contain guidance for mankind in all spheres of life and define the right and the wrong, establish justice, govern morality and justice, and offer mankind an entire system of beliefs and practices. The underlying principle is that the Creator alone knows what is best for His creation and whatever guidelines He sent is for the human benefit, designed to protect our spiritual, physical, and social well-being from all harm. In order to fulfill our purpose and live a righteous life in submission to God, we must align our lives with His commands and guidance as laid out in His revealed books.

Message Based on Context

These revealed books did not differ in their core principles such as monotheism, reminder of Judgement Day, the necessity of prophethood, and the call for moral excellence. However, Allah in His wisdom sent different messengers to different nations across history.

The practical application of the laws was thus tailored to the specific needs and circumstances of their people. Different people had different guidelines that fit their situations. The diversity in the laws, which was susceptible to different contexts and time periods, doesn’t mean there are contradictions. Instead, it shows how God’s mercy adapts and changes for different groups. Even though the rules varied for drive communities, the main message has always stayed the same. Throughout time, mankind was supposed to worship just one God. They were meant to obey and serve only Him. This core message remained constant throughout time.

The Books Muslims Believe In

Allah reminds us in the Quran about the belief in Messengers and Revelations:

Say (O Muslims): We believe in Allah, and the revelation given to us and to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and that given to Moses and Jesus, and that given to (all) prophets from their Lord, we make no difference between one and another of them, and we bow to Allah (in Islam). (Qur‘an 2: 136).

Muslims are commanded to believe in all previous Revelations in their original forms, as mentioned in the Quran. These include: the Book of Abraham, the Psalms of David, the Torah of Moses, and the Gospel of Jesus.

The Quran: The Final, Unchanged Revelation

In the Quran, Allah promises to protect and preserve it from any changes. This guarantee was not given to previous revelations, as they were intended for specific times and peoples, and their messages were not yet complete.

Without this protection from Allah, the previous scriptures were vulnerable to human interference over centuries. Hence, superstitions, idolatry, myths, and philosophical ideas were introduced into these texts. This is why Muslims do not accept the current versions of the Bible (Old and New Testaments) as the pure, unaltered Word of Allah.

The Quran, revealed to the last Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), is the culmination of Allah’s message for all of mankind until the Day of Judgment. Among the miraculous signs of its preservation is that, wherever you go in the world, the Quran is exactly the same and has been memorized word for word by millions. The Quran stands as the ultimate criterion for judging truth from falsehood, confirming the truth in what remains of the previous messages and clarifying their errors and distortions.
